I grew up in a Christian home.  We went to church three times a week, and basically anytime the doors were open.  Growing up, I knew about Heaven and Hell and knew that I definitely didn’t want to go to Hell!

When I was four years old, I was sitting on the couch with my mom, who was reading the story of Bambi to me. We came to the part in the book where one of the deer dies, and the layout of the page is still embedded in my memory. It was a fiery red page, and it reminded me of Hell that I had learned so much about.  I asked my mom if that deer went to Heaven or Hell.

As an adult on the verge of having my own kids in a few years, I can only image trying to answer that question from an adorable four year old girl.  I honestly don’t remember how my mom answered the question, I just remember the conversation turning into knowing how I could get to Heaven when I die.

That night, my mom led me to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  I can distinctly remember all my sins being washed away- past, present, and future.  It was a glorious feeling, and I couldn’t wait for my daddy to come home so I could tell him all about it!  I even remember my mom standing up during church the following Sunday evening during testimony time to tell my church family of my salvation.

What a glorious day and memory!  And that is why Bambi is special to me!

What’s your salvation story? I would love to hear it in the comments!
