The Importance of Pelvic Floor Therapy Prenatally & Postnatally

I am offering a class in my home taught by my Pelvic Floor Therapist, Lisa, to discuss the importance of Pelvic Floor Therapy prenatally and postnatally!

If you are pregnant or postpartum, please join us!

Thursday, August 31st @ 6:30PM

In Pregnancy, pelvic floor therapy benefits include:
- you're less likely to tear during a vaginal delivery
- training and exercises that will give you confidence during pushing in labor, and potentially faster pushing stage (strong pelvic floor= more effective pushing)
- increased circulation which will cause faster healing in the postpartum stage
- quicker recovery time for both vaginal and cesarean births
- help with urinary incontinence & constipation
- help with sexual dysfunction/discomfort/disinterest
- help with lower back pain/Sciatica
- less likely to experience organ prolapse

In pregnancy, it is uncommon for a woman to go through pregnancy without any symptoms of her shifting and stretching pelvic floor (due to hormones & extra muscle strain/stretching).
However, women who use pelvic floor therapy have great tools to help navigate, diminish, and even avoid many of the common pelvic floor symptoms that often go along with being pregnant. In other words, you don't HAVE to experience leaks, discomfort, or prolapse!

"Research shows that women who begin pelvic floor therapy at 32 weeks or earlier have better oitcomes for birth and postpartum recovery"

Postpartum benefits:
- help with tearing or cesarean incision scarring/healing
-rebuild abdominals and pelvic floor strength, which can help maintain the structure of your lower body and protect your spine
- can also help with pain with intercourse, tightness, and incontinence/urgency
- see within 2-12 weeks after birth (the sooner the better)
- Breastfeeding causes lowered estrogen levels, which decreases blood flow to the vagina. Pelvic floor therapy increases blood flow which speeds up and enhances healing so that the tissue's strength is restored!
- healing restores the muscles to their proper function and interactions with the nerves, creating a healthy pelvic floor
- help with prolapse
- help with diastasis recti
